Welcome!

The general focus of our research group is to understand the ecology and biology of marine organisms, particularly fishes, as models to test hypotheses of basic and applied ecological interest. Effects and interactions involving individual performance, condition, and behavior that alter population demography are a current emphasis, as are trophic interactions, including those based on the relative importance of predator-induced density-mediated and trait-mediated effects. We work in several coastal ecosystems, and our general interests include the processes and mechanisms that influence population and assemblage structure. We often use scientific diving and an experimental approach, directing our studies towards effects on the early life stages of fishes, especially recruitment (input of young) of fishes to near shore habitats.
